We toured Sequoia National Forest, Sequoia National Park, Yosemite National Park, then crossed the Sierra's via the Sonoran Pass heading west to east, then returned home. The scenery was spectacular, the roads in Sequoia National Forest were extremely twisty, and the crossing of the Sierra's was beautiful and challenging. We experienced temperatures from the low 40's to the high 90's while on the trip.
The Sonoran Pass was cleared of snow just about a week before we crossed it. We had wanted to take the Tioga Pass, but it was still snowed under and impassable. The Sonoran Pass took us to an altitude over 9600 feet. The road was very twisty, some of the grades were incredibly steep (we were often pulling the hills in first gear and some of the signs indicated grades as steep as 26%), there were some extreme drop-offs, but all in all I am so glad we took that road. It was snow covered mountains all the way and just fantastic views. Unfortunately, I don't think any of us were able to get any pictures while going over the pass. Mike may have gotten one while riding. There were few places to stop, and the roads were constantly twisty. My speedometer clocked 1668 total miles for the trip.(6/11)
